Mudane reality
The eastern sky was still clear, but eventually graying, shot through with streaks of pink and orange. The guilt was creeping all over me as I looked into Rachel's brown eyes. Her resolute pair of eyes were shining brightly and was accompanied by a perfect grin on her face. I barely existed in this world as my mind was lingering in a dubious sphere of conflict within myself. Rachel was anticipating something from me I could tell by the expression on her face. I'd known her for years after all. Squinting at my surroundings, I breathed a sigh of relief as though a weight had been lifted off my shoulders as Eva, just a few paces from us intervened.
"Hey fellas! What you doin'? I heard you got kicked out of school"she chuckled.
" Is this the first time we've been thrown out?" Rachel winked.
"I mean..you aren't wrong either" said Eva laughing hysterically.
I hadn't laughed, my features were as immobile as stone. The silence between us lengthened. I made minimum eye contact with them. I glared at the street lamp as though it was the most amusing object I had ever seen. After a long pause I blurted out, " I think I am not normal".
"When have you ever been normal?" questioned Eva.
" I am serious" I reckoned
"I am being haunted by this strange luminesce book that follows me everywhere and I wanted to tell you but I was unsure of it myself. I didn't want to worry you".
"Normal" friends would be concerned. But my psychic friends spread out on the road and laughed until their stomach hurt. Funny and ironical on how I call them psychic when I am the one who's not mentally sane. I was reminded of an old classic tale, wherein a shephard used to give a false alarm that a wolf was to devour him. But when that incident actually bechanced his pleas were to dear ears.
In vain, I strolled by the sidewalk leading past the backs of somber coloured petty stores. One of those shops caught my eye, the windows were sparkling clear and through it I witnessed crystal balls and dream catchers, books, urns and creepy pottery. I could see a fifty year old woman with long gray hair, clad in an old fashioned velvety blue dress. It creeped me out when she smiled at me. She was accompanied by a dark haired man and his eyes had a tinge of uncanny flaxen. He wore a flannel shirt with ripped off jeans, polished shoes and a dark black leather jacket hanging over his arm. His eyes pierced me. At that moment all I could think was not to pee myself and run.
I wish I was joking. I wanted to run away but I saw something. I just couldn't bring myself to run. I turned around to see Eva and Rachel but the street look deserted. I saw Jade in the shop, she stood right beside the lady. I rubbed my eyes, it surely was her. She was holding the luminesce book in her hand. I no longer had the book in my bag. I tried to reassure myself that it was all a dream. But unfortunately it was a mudane reality. A reality that I was too aggrevated to acknowledge.
